Successful business is not always about winning, but often about compromise. ![]() When you become a business owner, working with you becomes a choice. There is an evolution from quiet acceptance, to open and welcome contradiction, or even in some cases outright confrontation of ideas. If they don't like you, they can simply walk away. ![]() WHEN YOU BECOME A BUSINESS OWNER, THAT ALL GOES OUT THE WINDOW. YOU HAVE TO LEARN TO SWALLOW YOUR PRIDE AND ACCEPT LOSING GRACEFULLY, WITHOUT GIVING UP OR QUITTING. THOSE WHO REALIZE SUCCEED, AND THOSE WHO DON'T CRUMBLE.ĭiving into entrepreneurship was a rude awakening. As a top performing employee you are used to winning, perceiving that you are a thought leader, and unknowingly forcing your will. People graciously "listen and partially accept" your stances and opinions without full push back. This quote hit home for me because it struck on one of the greatest lessons I learned (through pain and force feeding none the less).įrom a young age we are groomed to be the best in sport, best in school, win awards, graduate Ivy and get a great job. Society ranks you based on this cookie cutter format, and companies pull you in to be their greatest "creators and thinkers" within the confines of their leaderships will, and the companies structural and cultural bubble.įrom kindergarten to career we cut throats and kick, scream and claw our way to the top. Underneath the projection of our corporate facade, that gets along, plays fair, and is a team player. We are rewarded for winning and defeating those around us, and it is celebrated. ![]() "A quitter never wins, and a winner never quits", arguably one of my favorite quotes from a book that has been the gift that keeps on giving, Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill (a timeless study of how many of Americas great leaders sustained success by gritting their teeth, and persevering). ![]()
